Friend lists of the future
In the future, when we have faster than light travel, friends lists will be important.
When you go off on a long trip (lightyears away...) when you get back, all your friends and family will be very much older.
If you want to avoid that, you need an FTLFriends list - who do you want to see in your-frame-of-reference-tomorrow? Because that frame of reference tomorrow is 50 years in this frame of reference....

Modern Classics
Emmet sent me a text despairing the dearth of any 'classic' quality music nowadays.
What do I mean by classic? I mean music by the likes of Led Zepplin, Metallica, Queen, AC/DC, Beatles, Police, Talking Heads etc. etc. Bands that all produced tunes that even today have the power to make you sit up and say "fuck that rocks", music that is as fresh and exciting as the day it was written.
There are no bands like that nowadays. No classics. There is some good music out there, but nothing that I would still be listening to with pleasure in 10 years time, nothing that would enduce me to drop everything and hit the dance floor, nothing that would make me consider paying way over the odds for a ticket to a reunion concert.
I think the likes of Guitar Hero will reinforce this trend. One of the main reasons for taking up the guitar is to scratch an itch. Guitar Hero seems to me to be scratching that itch and with the continuing trend toward 'punk' where limited musical ability is seen as a positive thing, the future does not look bright.
Is there a silver lining to this? Possibly, maybe I'm wrong about Guitar Hero and its ilk - maybe people will be inspired to pick up a real guitar and make some real music.
And do I like just rock music? no. It doesn't have to BE rock it just has to rock me.
