Richard Dawkins is widely misundertood by people who misunderstand their own stance

Bottom line - Richard Dawkins argues that religion is not only an unnecessary crutch but also leads people to the most heinous crimes, massacres, bigotry and ill-will in the name of religion. He does in fact argue that the world would be a better place without religion.

I agree with him.

Religious people do not. They like to point out that atheist dictators such as Stalin, Pol Pot etc. committed atrocities without the need of religion.

This is missing the point.

Religion is just a huge excuse for people to hurt one another.

'Atheists', secular humanists and those who feel no need for either religion or a label to describe their naturalistic (rational) state all know that religion is unnecessary to maintain a strong ethical and moral framework in their lives.

Religion might even be unnecessary to develop such a framework - unfortunately there is no prospect of a control group anytime soon.

Besides which, just as I believe it is necessary for children to be exposed to flus, colds, and bugs of all description in order to generate healthy, hale grown-ups, I believe that children should be exposed to all manner of religious thought - and I do mean ALL manner, the whole gamut - in order to produce adults that are relatively immune from infestation by irrational thought processes that lead people to mediate all their actions with others and the world around them through a fictitious third party.

We might just as well keep children toeing the line by telling them that Mickey Mouse will beat and torture Minnie unless the child behaves.

Back to the specious argument that Dawkins argument holds no water because atheists can be cruel and unusual in the expression of their power. I believe that Dawkins is arguing off the point a little bit. He is giving a little bit too much weight to religion. I mean no disrespect here and I make the argument as someone who has not put as much thought into the matter as Professor Dawkins. My point is that religion should be a very small part of life. From this viewpoint the Professor may as well be writing large tomes about childrens books (which might have merit!)

I view religion and all its dogma more and more as childrens stories. I mean a certain respect by this as I believe that the various religious books (bible, talmud and even that most controversial of books - the qu'ran) have some value (as outlined earlier) as far as part of the canon of mythology.

Having said all that I think Porfessor Dawkins is fighting the good fight.

When we live in a world where over 50% of the worlds only 'superpower' believe in the literal text of the bible and fervently hope that tomorrow will bring the Armageddon and rapture we need (in Dawkins words) a Churchill to fight the growing tide of religious fanatacism that will, unchecked, overcome all history, rational thought, scientific endeavour, progress, freedom and ironically perhaps any validity that we humans have to the claim of rising above the animal kingdom.

Like all our ancestors, back to the first one-celled creature that mutated to allow it direct its movements, we are a bridge from the past to the future, from barbarism to enlightenment, if we allow our minds to be closed then at best we stumble back, at worst we fall into the abyss, never to tread another path and happy about it.

Amen?

"Lord, I have a problem!"
"What's the problem, Eve?"
"Lord, I know you've created me and have provided this beautiful garden and all of these wonderful animals and that hilarious comedy snake, but I'm just not happy."
"Why is that, Eve?" came the reply from above.
"Lord, I am lonely. And I'm sick to death of apples." "Well, Eve, in that case, I have a solution. I shall create a man for you."
"What's a 'man,' Lord?"
"This man will be a flawed creature, with aggressive tendencies, an enormous ego and an inability to empathize or listen to you properly, he'll basically give you a hard time. He'll be bigger, faster, and more muscular than you. He'll be really good at fighting and kicking a ball about and hunting fleet-footed ruminants, But, he'll be pretty good in the sack."
"I can put up with that," says Eve, with an ironically raised eyebrow.
"Yeah well, he's better than a poke in the eye with a burnt stick. But, there is one condition."
"What's that, Lord?"
"You'll have to let him believe that I made him first."
:D :D :D

Failure : christian fundamentalist honey pot

Well, you may have read the post below and thought what the hell is up with Mark?

The answer is, the fact that some religious nutcase tried to (succeeded?) get Fahrenheit 451 banned during banned books week (as someone put it - a previously banned book about banned book burning banned buring banned books week).

It made me mad, so I adopted a 'persona' and wrote a diatribe against filthy books. If you read it you might see that I was bringing talk around to another filthy book and calling for right-thinking christians everywhere to have it banned due to its lascivious nature, reference to smut, calling the loard name in vain, murder, sodomy, rape, slaughter, anger - you name it, it is vividly portrayed in the book and often as as something to aspire to.

The book in question?

The bible of course.

So, sorry that my 'honey pot' didnt attract any insects.

but still - ban the bible!!

Filthy books

Praise Lord Jedus and God almighty - hallelujah!

I have just now read about a good christian gentleman in the United States of America (one nation under GOD...!!!! rapture is near!!!) that has asked for that lascivious, filthy, denegrating, unholy book by the satan worshipping individual known as Ray Bradbury, that ungodly, hedonistic piece of devil worshipping known as "Fahrenheit 451" (obviously written by some homosecual friend of that devil Michael Moore) that has asked for that piece of filth that the liberal media hods up as an example of literature, to be banned. Banned, and with good reason.

This gentleman, this fine upstanding individual, Mr. Alton Verm, was shocked, stunned and outraged when his teenage daughter, only 15 years old people, only 15 years old and being subjected to filth! pure filth! and ungodliness! Dark-sidedness like we have not known since the Salem with trials. This brave father has confronted the corrupted board of his local school and demanded that his daughter be protected from filth, depravity, wickedness and evil. PURE EVIL!!

Luckily, with his good judgement born of many days studying the holy bible and reflecting on his own potential sinful thoughts and lustful desires, this good christian (having fought the good fight against the devil many times) has seen the light of reason and come to the only conclusion that a good, GOD-fearing christian can come to. THIS BOOK MUST BE BANNED!! FAHRENHEIT 451 MUST BE BANNED!

Think on it folks - his teenage daughter exposed to swear words, talk of drunkeness, lasciviousness and coarseness of nature. The poor child has been exposed to corruption. Who knows how it has affected her soul, how it is even now eating away at the shield of virtue she has managed to erect between her and the world. How this evil force in her life has injected a seed of destruction into the very heart of her christianity - her burgeoning womanhood, her future children, the very foundation of every Chrsitan souls future.

Like 'the don' from the popular Godfather movies if they mess with our family, they mess with us. We mustrise up against this filth and declare a vendetta against this perfidious filth that invades the lie of our most precious assest, our 'purity of essence', orur vry lifeblood, our very OFFSPRING>

Clearly, any book that ses the lords name in vain, that talks of foul deeds such as (dare I type these venomous words) Sodomy, Murder, Idolatry, violence, sloth, venal pleasures of every kind. This "Fahrenheit 451" pales in comparison to other books.

We must call for, and expect the immediate destruction of any book that seeks to lead our children and even seasoned warriors of god and knights of jesus and paladins of virgin mary from the street of truth, a street respendant in gay ribbons declaring our undying love for Jesus, his father and the indefatigable holy spirit.

There is a book friends, of such evil. This book , along with many others of its ilk is distributed in secret by a shadowy organisation that claims it seeks only "the betterment of mankind". We, as god-fearing folk, know exactly what such shadowy organisations seek - to overthrow the power of the army of the redempted Chrust himself!!

GUard yourself against these folk by reading what I have to say about this book. It speaks of idolatry, it speaks of murder, it speaks of sodomy, it speaks of murder, it speaks of venal, carnal, mortal sins of every ilk. It presents stories with fully fledged characters that wander far from the light of the lord but in a compelling way designed to strip our youth of their senses, designed to strip our youth of their senses, desinged to kill our youths thought processes and demand undying faith to a false god, a false prophet and demands a familiarity with filth.

This secret order must be stopped at every cost. Please. If you are a good christian send me support by mail, send me support by email, add me to your prayers. We need to combat this society and their text, the text shared by them and many other devious, unholy organisations, unblinking in their devotion to the corruption of the true message of humanity.

Pledge your support, pledge your love of the ture message of life and your faith in humanity.
