Killer caught through blog entry
A young man and his sister were robbed and murdered by the girls ex boyfriend.
The guy was caught because the brother made this blog entry shortly before he died.
Heres the background
The murder itself is brutal and shocking but made more so by the banality of the entry. The realisation that the young man was just persuing an ordinary day.
That banality highlights the brutality of the murderer - you wonder how he managed to do it, realise that he would have had to dehumanise his targets (remember the girl was his ex) greeting them, bantering, dropping hints about what he wanted and finally forcing himself to become enraged and following that line of thought becomes impossible for us.

Shooting the shit with Mr. reality distortion field
ME: Yo Jobs! Hows it hangin?
Steve Jobs: Who are you? Where did you get my number?
ME: I got it from Bill's rolodex, anyway I got an idea to lay on you - you ready?
SJ: Bill doesnt use a rolodex, he uses iLife, I was over last weekend upgrading it for him, you know how bad he is with computers.... wait who did you say you were?
ME: I'm your saviour Stevie boy. I know what your next insanely great thing is.
SJ: really? You been reading Mac Insider again?
ME: Nah, nah, good old inspiration. Lizzin up buddy - your next OS..
SJ: yeah...
ME: call it OS Y
SJ: uh?
ME: then you can have a nifty slogan - SWITCHING? YNOT?
SJ: err.. I dont think so...
ME: OK,ok. Why not bring out a different version for teenage boys - call it OS XXX. You do all that accessibility shit real good so you could build in all sorts of shotcuts to make it easier to surf the net one-handed you know?
SJ: WTF?
ME: The sogan could be - THINK DEVIANT
SJ: ....
ME: Whatcha think?
SJ: I'm loving it. Have you got a passport?
ME: Yeah baby, first class?
SJ: No worries - blondes or brunettes?
ME: uh?
SJ: Hostesses dude, hostesses
ME: :)

Amazing facts - number 1 in a series
35 fish a year are killed by the milk people pour into sinks to check for chunky bits before they pour it into their tea/coffee.
Stop the slaughter! Use American style dairy-free creamers (made from old chalk sticks and pasteurised urine samples)

Pictures aid the memory
I completely forgot that this happened just behind me the other day (I was on the path not the road and I heard it happen but didnt see it...).

It sounded like the motorcyclist could have been to blame, he dropped the clutch and did one of those high speed take offs that motor cycles are so good at.
I'd imagine he was expecting to get around the end of the car but they stopped and he suddenly ran out of road.
His first words were 'what the fuck are you doing...' tailing off very quickly at the end when he realised he was in the wrong and that he had just fucked up his bike.
ha fucking ha.
The last time I saw something like this I was in a taxi with a moronbike rider revving away beside it. Before the lights fully changed he dropped the clutch, pulled a little wheelie with the acceleration and smashed into an old man who was attempting to hobble the last few feet across the road.
Moronbike riders: they yearn for the open roads and the feel of the wind on their skin and freedom! Freedom! They get instead the feel of tarmac against their faces (hopefully) and the enclosed space of a jail cell shared with a hairy bloke called Ben.
Sorry Dave :)

Dun Laoghaire
Detail of one of the figures on the Christ the King sculpture overlooking the harbour. Crucifixes that are erected in or near harbours or harbour towns always have a nautical air to them, I have to say this is one of the best I have seen. The figures are at the same time reminiscent of drowning sailors, or traitors lashed to the mast. Stirring stuff.

Down the road a bit are the old Thallasic baths (not sure what the thallasic bit means - isnt that somewhere in Greece, perhaps they were hoping that by some associative magic the sun would always shine over this little patch of ground..).
The boths have been abandoned for what looks like years. Impressive building though. Doric columns and grecian touches all over (obviously...). The crumbling only adds to the air of Grecian authority I am sure the designers wished to convey.
This tank was attached to the side of the building - I am sure Hammond Lane is nowhere near Athens.

Big balls. What more needs to be said.
Great big, rock hard balls.
Any man would be proud of them.

Anti-junkie lighting
Q. What does papier maché, bad puns and drugs have in common?

I was out in Dun Laoighaire the other day trying to drum up some work (successfully I think!). On the way home (after taking more photos which will be put up in due course) I had to go to the toilet.
The blue light is to stop the junkies from finding a vein and shooting up.
You can just see the wet toilet paper that was thrown onto the light in a vein (sorry..) attempt to block the light.
A. now you know....

Trading vodka for sleep or should that be, ah whatever...
When I work late at night - and I was doing a LOT of that before and after Christmas (ruined my health too!) - I find it efficacious to quaff a dram of vodka at opportune moments in an effort to vanquish exhaustion.
The only problem is that drinking vodka late at night can lead to me reading the entire back catalogue of Penny Arcade or whatever web comix happens under my gaze (they are like popcorn, you cant stop once you start)
Late night vodka drinking can lead to other things also, best draw a veil over that though...

Comments off/on
When I get this piece of shite onto its new server I will be able to allow my loyal readers to add comments to the blog entries again.
Huzzah! I hear you warble as you caper with glee in anticipation of defacing my site once more.
Just warning all spammers that they can fuck right off if they think they will get away with adding comments.
I have some brand new technology called an address tracker, a hammer and an unquenchable blood lust.
Well, either that or some good blacklisting software.
Bring it!
P.S. THIS is the last entry on this blog on this server (maybe)

MP3's
I have noticed that a lot of bloggers are bragging about how big their MP3 colections are.
I just did a quick check (always keep a tape measure handy) and I have just shy of 30 Gigs of MP3'a. This is acceptably close to the actual figure of 28.7 Gigs that I feel justified in rounding it up to 30 Gigs.
It's a bit like the answer I give in a bar when a pretty girl asks me 'so....I presume you are in proportion?'
I would hate to break their little hearts. Time enough to see tears in their eyes when I get them home...
p.s. THIS is the last entry on this server

Last entry before the big move?
I bought myself a new server.
Well I didnt buy it, but I handed over a load of money to a company that is looking after one of their machines that is accessible by me and me alone.
This means that I am moving this blog, my work website (www.webpusher.ie) and various other sites onto that server.
I set the whole server up myself (apart from the very confusing Server 2003 security bits and bobs - thanks to my mate Damo for setting that up for me in return for setting up his blog for him) so yay to me!
This naturally means a new install of Moveable Type - the blogging tool that powers this piece of shite literary masterpiece which means that this may well be the last entry on this blog on this server.
Boo fucking hoo.
There have been quite a few technical issues with the sites I have been hosting with my current hosting provider. While most of the time the response to the issues has been 'satisfactory' often the problems have dragged on and the response has been 'barely satisfactory'. I actually have the impression now that there are about three people working there.
Anyway, onward and upward, dont look back for fear of being turned to a pillar of salt and all that.

Sick at home...
...and its the weekend!
Since I've been asleep half the day I cant actually sleep now. Feck it.
I have managed to reinstall windows on my work machine, install IIS and Apache, get Ruby on Rails running and have just finished some necessary house cleaning on my blog software so it is running nice and smoothly (the admin side - you guys won't see any difference, dont even know why I mentioned it...)
Its amazing how little you have to say for yourself after spending most of the day in bed reading Robert Jordan (makes my head spin...)
