Rusty the bin

I love the way this bin has been entirely graffiti'd by kids scraping the paint off. It must have taken years to get to this state.

Snow? It's feckin polystyrene packing foam nibblets!

We had *snow* on Tuesday.

I've been skiing. I KNOW what snow looks like and you sir, were no snow.

Fucking brrr!

It amazes me that we live in a country that is routinely at least 15 to 20 degrees warmer than places I have been skiing and it feels fucking freezing in Ireland!

XelectorBackSnow.jpg

Pathetic! Its not even cold enough for the snow to last more than an hour. So why does it feel like someone is throwing buckets of cold water in your face when you are walking down the street?

Friends of mine were over from Moscow last year (average temperature during mid-winter: -10 degree C) and they couldnt get warm.

QED.

P2P, secure, distribute, data repositories

People who value data need to store it somewhere. Usually the choice is a big monolithic building with tons of concrete, lad, stainless steel, guards, dogs, electric fences, passwords, you name it.

There could be another alternative.

USB pen drives.

HUh?

Well think about it. It shouldnt be too hard to fit USB pen drives with WiFi or whatever wireless technology is suitable. Then you have a little bit of P2P code running on the drive that stores a meg or two of random data somewhere on the drive.

In this way you can have a P2P network containing your information distributed all over the (technologically advanced) world. The data is safe because there is never enough of it in one place to be downloaded and analysed and it is safe from destruction because the same code is located in many mnay different locations.

The idea is that the meg or so on the pen drive will contain packets of data belonging to numerous documents of different people.

How do you get it to these folks and get it back?

Fucked if I know - I think the ideas up, I dont implement them...

Free Arash and Mojtaba

Today is the launch of the first campaign by the Committee to protect Bloggers. They are trying to get international pressure to secure the release of two Iranian bloggers, arrested and imprisoned for speaking their mind.

Free Arash and Mojtaba

Please link to the site and at least send an email to the Iranian embassy to pressurise for the release of these two men.

I'm off to sunny, sunny Scotland, a Viva edin-burra!

I'm off to watch rugby in Scotland. Apparently.

All I remember from last time we went was beer, then sitting in the cold watching grown men molest each other on a muddy field, then more beer, a curry, some women, flashing lights, music, more beer and finally sleep.

I dont know which of those was the rugby.
